BACHE Visiting Writers Series : Antonya Nelson
Start Date: 3/11/2013Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Date: 3/11/2013End Time: 8:00 PM

Event Description
Fiction writer Antonya Nelson will read in Divinity North 302 on Monday, March 11th, as the final reader in this year's BACHE Visiting Writers Series.  Antonya Nelson is the author of four novels, the most recent of which is titled Bound (2010).   She is also widely recognized as a master of the short story and has published six short story collections including The Expendables (1990), which won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction, and Talking in Bed (1996), which received the Heartland Fiction Award.   She is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes and was recently recognized by The New Yorker as one of the “twenty young fiction writers for the new millennium.”

Nelson’s fiction, while experimental in its treatment of consciousness, is also accessible centered around characters whose humanity is rooted in her realistic treatment of them.   She balances sophisticated plots with deeply human characters whose real flaws and limitations invite our sympathy rather than judgment.
