Event Description
The Mann Center is pleased to host Dr. Richard Carwardine at Samford University on February 18th and 19th, 2013. Dr. Carwardine is President of Corpus Christi College at the University of Oxford, where he read Modern History as an undergraduate. He holds a doctoral degree from Queen's College, University of Oxford, and spent a year of study at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2006, he was recognized for his scholarship by appointment as a Fellow of the British Academy.
Carwardine's publications include Transatlantic Revivalism: Popular Evangelicalism in Britain and America 1790-1865; Evangelicals and Politics in Antebellum America; and Lincoln: A Life of Purpose and Power. His forthcoming book, Building a Righteous Nation, will be a study of religion in American national construction between the Revolution and the Civil War.
